Gelsomino estratto
Il gelsomino (jasminum officinalis) appartiene allla famiglia delle Oleacee. Questa pianta di origine orientale, ormai ampiamente diffusa anche in Europa(soprattutto in Italia e in Francia), profuma le nostre notti estive. Gli indiani consideravano questo fiore sacro alla dea Visnù, e con esso le donne indiane preparavano oli per profumarsi i capelli. Ancora oggi, nello Sri Lanka si spargono i petali del gelsomino davanti ai templi buddisti, e i fedeli li raccolgono in ciotole per farne dono agli dei. Il gelsomino giunse in Italia nel XV secolo, a Firenze, e Cosimo I de' Medici lo conservò gelosamente nel proprio giardino, impedendo a chiunque di coglierne i fiori. Evidentemente il suo divieto non venne rispettato, visto che poi il gelsomino ebbe ampia diffusione nei giardini di tutta Italia.
